Professor at Heriot-Watt University

Phil Renforth is a geoenvironmental engineer, engineering geologist, and geochemist with a strong focus on climate change, sustainability, and Negative Emission Technologies.

His research primarily involves assessing novel carbon sequestration technologies, particularly those involving carbon capture through mineral-solution reactions.

Phil is also interested in alkaline waste remediation, soil stabilization through biogeochemistry, and the feasibility of various environmental engineering solutions.

He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Geo-environmental engineering and a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Civil Engineering from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Currently, Phil Renforth serves as an Associate Professor at Heriot-Watt University, with previous roles including lecturer positions at Cardiff University and as a James Martin Fellow at the University of Oxford.

His professional background also includes being a Research Associate at Newcastle University and a Graduate Engineer at MWH Global.
