Philip Fisher

Philip H. Knight Chair, Professor of Psychology at University of Oregon

Philip Fisher is a professor at Stanford Graduate School of Education and was formerly the Director of the Center for Translational Science at the University of Oregon from September 2018 to June 2022.3 He is also a Senior Fellow at Harvard University's Center on the Developing Child and a member of the National Scientific Council on the Developing Child.346

Fisher's research is centered on early childhood interventions within marginalized communities, translating scientific knowledge about healthy development amid adversity into social policy and programs.21 His specific interests include the impact of early stressful experiences on children's psychological and neurobiological development, along with prevention and treatment programs aimed at improving children's attachment to caregivers, relationships with peers, and academic performance.1456 His work has been funded by the National Institutes of Health since 1999.456

Dr. Fisher is the lead investigator in the RAPID-EC project, a national survey on the well-being of households with young children during the COVID-19 pandemic.2456 He has also developed evidence-based interventions such as Treatment Foster Care Oregon for Preschoolers (TFCO-P), Kids in Transition to School (KITS), and Filming Interactions to Nurture Development (FIND).4

He was the recipient of the 2012 Society for Prevention Research Translational Science Award and a 2019 Fellow of the American Psychological Society.124 Fisher obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon in 1993.1
