Philip Koopman is a prominent figure in the fields of autonomous vehicle safety, UL 4600, software safety, embedded systems, critical systems, embedded control networks, distributed embedded systems, security, and software engineering education. With a rich background that includes serving as a US Navy Submarine Officer during the Cold War, working as an embedded CPU designer for Harris Semiconductor, conducting research in embedded systems at United Technologies, and involvement in several startup ventures, Philip Koopman has amassed extensive experience and expertise. He has conducted over 200 industry design reviews of embedded software projects and is the principal author of UL 4600. Currently, he focuses on autonomous vehicle safety technology, safety policy, and providing embedded system skill training for the industry.
