Hiring again. Looking for hungry SaaS AEs to come and join the team.
My first week back after a dramatic summer!
Back in May I went into hospital with some odd symptoms. My first diagnosis was given as a TIA or mild stroke. I was admitted to the stroke ward where they discovered that this was not the case but gave me another terrifying diagnosis of having a brain tumour. This turned out to be a misdiagnosis as well.
I got home but my condition deteriorated rapidly. I was admitted to The Royal and had an emergency surgery to remove pus from an abscess on the right hand side of my brain.
The surgery was a success and the paralysis I had on my left hand side has dissipated incredibly well. I regained the ability to walk and talk pretty quickly and other than a numbness in my left hand I am pretty much back to normal.
It’s been an experience to say the least but I feel fortunate in so many ways.
I wouldn’t normally post anything this personal on Linkedin but I wanted to share this experience and a little of what I learned from it. I genuinely feel that what I observed and learned on this journey will help me in my career so here are a few for you !
Team - what a team I had. My wife, family, friends, neuro, virology, ECAH - the list goes on. My big lesson - TRUST YOUR TEAM. For the first time in my life, I had to put myself in the hands of those around me. I learned to be comfortable with that and to embrace it.
Priority - In order to recover, I had to prioritise. I learned to pause, reflect and prioritise in a whole new way. I now try to analyse my priorities each week and to share them with my team to help them do the same.
Gratitude - The most underrated mental skill set. I practice it a lot now. Trying to find gratitude in every situation is challenging at times but hugely beneficial when you are up against it.
Smile - So many of us are so lucky to do what we do. We just forget it sometimes. Smiling helps me remember how lucky I am to do what I do.
My team and especially my CEO at FlowForma have been so incredible in helping me get back to work. Hopefully that’s it for the drama for a good while!
