Highlights
My first city after DC was Baltimore. I stayed with Denis Sgouros, who fed me crabcakes, took me to an Asian night market, and made me cook Chinese food for 20 of his friends.
There are ~15,000 Asians (2.5%) in Baltimore, which is oftentimes referred to as a Black and White city. Many of the folks I met were transplants, who decided to stay and build a better city. Despite what you've heard in the news, this city was welcoming beyond belief and the people were incredibly kind. The energy here was infectious, and I found myself rolling up my sleeves and diving into the community.
Brian Gerardo told me about the listening tour they did. They found that what people wanted wasn't professional development. It was a sense of community, a chance to be friends and to grow with others. Their vision is to make it so people don't have to feel alone in a city where [Asian stories] aren't often shared.
Special thanks to Denis, Brian, and Robbin Lee for showing me the magic they're creating in Baltimore, which I know is only going to continue to evolve. Can't wait to visit again :)
You can hear their authentic Asian voices here: https://lnkd.in/gajx9c-a
I've spent the last month traveling around the country visiting all the amazing people I met through the ERG Summit.
They welcomed me into their cities, housed me in their homes, and fed me all their favorite foods. Walking away from this experience with depleted energy, but a full heart and tummy.
Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing their stories with you, in the most authentic way possible. My goal is to take that magic we discovered in DC and bring it into the universe.
If you're interested in hearing their full stories, you can find them at: college.homi.io/aav
We're going to start with a clip from Jeleen who brought me into all this :)
