Purpose at the Core

As a business leader, my mission centers around empowering impact through purpose-driven businesses, climate technology investments, and sustainability initiatives aimed at driving positive, scalable change. Given my schedule, work life integration is perhaps more realistic than work life balance! When one lives to work, every step along the journey brings fulfillment regardless of the outcomes. I feel incredibly blessed to wake up every morning looking forward to collaborating with partners and colleagues, experimenting with new business ideas and learning about the latest technologies. Through the past decade of venture investments, it has become very clear that the most successful founders always start with why. Rather than striving from short term profit, they are invariably motivated by a burning desire to solve a bigger problem for the world. When a business is guided by purpose, mission and values, it will certainly outperform in the long run by attracting and retaining top notch talent, building a stronger brand and creating long-term value.

Journey of Sustainability My commitment to sustainability dated back to my university years as a psychology major fascinated with the human psyche and ways to foster holistic well-being in the next generation. Having grown up in such a blessed family, I’ve always felt a compelling responsibility to hand over a viable planet to our children and grandchildren. As I became a mother to 14 furry kids, my love for animals and nature propelled my drive to integrate sustainability into our group's core operations and investments.

Tackling the Roots of Climate Change In recent years, I became increasingly interested in the interlinks between personal, organization Al and planetary well-being. Addressing climate change needs to start with reflection on the roots of the problem - our insatiable desires, lack of compassion, and artificial separation from nature. As we become aware of the ultimate causes of our personal and collective suffering, we can find more effective ways to cultivate proenvironmental behavioral change and accelerate the sustainable transition.

May I invite you all to join me in kickstarting the impact revolution. When we awaken to the urgency of the challenge and the need to transcend above dualistic divisions and boundaries, we can reverse the gloomy trajectory of massive destruction. Together we can turn challenges into opportunities and reimagine a greener, inclusive, and regenerative future for all - human and animals and future generations to come!

I was honored to join the United Nations Pre-Summit of the Future Dialogue, which focused on the interlinkages between climate change, public health, and artificial intelligence, as well as the dialogue on scaling up investment for a sustainable future. This seminal event, co-organized by the United Nations in China and the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau, emphasized the need for coordinated thinking and actions in accelerating the sustainability transition.

The Pre-Summit began with inspiring opening remarks from Mr. SIDDHARTH CHATTERJEE 常启德, UN Resident Coordinator in China, who highlighted this is a once-in-a-generation-opportunity to reinvigorate multilateralism, address gaps in global governance, and reaffirm existing commitments to the SDGs. He also underscored the critical importance of three key words: partnerships, platforms, and persistence to achieve what was once thought impossible. We must forge and consolidate partnerships with as many stakeholders as possible –Member States, international organizations, academia, foundations, and the private sector. Mr. Christopher Hui, Secretary for FSTB showcased HK’s strategic role as a green finance hub as well as the GBA’s innovation and technology sector, ranked as the world’s 2nd by the Global Innovation Index 2023.

As a panelist in the Leaders’ Dialogue on the Interrelationship between Climate Change, Public Health, and Artificial Intelligence, I was pleased to share the stage with distinguished leaders from various sectors including H.E. Mr. Lim Lork Piseth, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Commerce, Mr. Joseph HL Chan, Under Secretary of FSTB, Prof. Alfred Tat-Kei Ho, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences at City University of Hong Kong and Ms. Myriam Mwizerwa, Head of Sub-Office for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Hong Kong.

Being an advocate for purpose-driven business and impact investments, I was excited to share my experiences and vision for the future. Disruptive technologies can revolutionize our lives and convert transition risks into valuable opportunities. Innovations in renewable energy, carbon capture, and sustainable agriculture offer scalable solutions for decarbonization, enabling significant emission reductions across even the toughest sectors.

Our commitment to multilateralism and multilateral institutions, including the UN, is imperative as we are faced with interrelated, global challenges. To support technology innovations, cross-sector collaboration is essential. By fostering Public Private Philanthropy Partnerships (PPPP), we can drive the systemic change needed to reverse the trajectory and create a greener future for all.
