My daughter remarked from her science lessons - "Cats are color-blind , the world must be so boring to them". My immediate System1 reaction was - "Yeah, humans are gifted to see colors". A bit of reflection and I went back to her and said - perhaps it's important to see from the cat's lens that what may seem as a gift to humans, may not be so relevant for them and for their survival in the world, considering they have different role to play in the ecosystem - and they certainly have a place ! Cats are equipped with visual adaptions that allow them to see well in dim light and pick up even slight movements - much better than humans, to improve their hunting ability .
Perhaps we are too quick to judge and it is important to see from the other "beings" lens , also termed empathy - in parenting, leadership, friendship and every other interaction in life . And the next time you are lucky enough to be graced with a rainbow in the sky, rest assured our feline friends will enjoy it too- perhaps not all the colors and that will be just fine for them!
