Thank you peopleHum for adding me to this very impressive list of Top 50 HR Leaders to follow in 2024! 🙏

I've added some new names to my follow list and can't wait to learn and expand my knowledge with the diverse perspectives they all share. One thing I dig about being in HR is that the multitude of voices, opinions, and experiments are largely supported regardless of our own opinions. HR is hard. We're all here just putting in the time, effort and excitement for what's possible.

Hmmm..I guess if people are going to follow me, I need to get writing again. 😅 This summer did not slow down at the "office" but I slowed down in my own time to enjoy the sunshine, my family, and nature.

If someone can tell me where the Summer of '24 went, I'd really appreciate it.

Have a happy and safe last long weekend of the summer. 🌞

Fellow HR and People Leaders, how much time have you spent lately thinking about succession planning.

Me? A LOT!

I'm most concerned when top talent doesn't see their future when everyone else does. Why is this? I'm convinced that it's not a lack of confidence but instead, a lack of transparency in succession planning.

Succession planning is crucial. It ensures continuity, retains top talent, and prepares our businesses for future growth. And it's not just about filling roles but about fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and sees a clear path for their development.

I believe that transparency plays a pivotal role in this process. At Bench Accounting, transparency isn’t just a buzzword; it’s a core value that drives our success and helps us retain the best talent with trust and clarity. However it can be complex balancing succession with employee expectations and changing business needs. I've been having this conversation since my days at SAP when we launched our first HIPO program. To share or not to share... (fyi - we shared 😀)

To help you with this conundrum in the complex world we exist in, here are 5 tips for balancing succession and transparency:

📣 Communicate Clearly and Often: Regular updates and honest conversations about company goals, roles, and individual career paths ensure everyone is on the same page.

📈 Align Development Plans with Business Needs: Tailor personal development plans to align with evolving business objectives, ensuring employees grow in ways that benefit both their careers and the company.

🔄 Foster a Culture of Feedback: Encourage continuous feedback loops. This helps employees feel valued and keeps leaders informed about the team’s pulse.

🗣️ Be Honest About Opportunities and Challenges: Transparency includes discussing both the good and the bad. Openly share potential opportunities and challenges within the company.

🛠️ Utilize Advanced Succession Planning Tools: Implementing smart tech and AI enabled solutions can be a game-changer. Tools that move you from powerpoint to a fully integrated talent platform can be powerful.

At Bench, we’re embracing these practices with great results. By prioritizing transparency, we can better prepare our amazing teams for the future, aligning personal aspirations with our long-term visions.

For those looking to enhance their succession planning strategies, I highly recommend checking out SuccessionHR.com. It’s an innovative solution that has responded to an industry gap that hasn't been tackled in this way before. HUGE fan of the solution and of Peter Demangos, Founder. He's helping us all ensure we're not just ready for today, but for the future.

Let’s build environments where transparency and trust lead to growth and success for everyone involved!
