In November, the U.S. and #Indonesia announced the elevation of ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Over the long term, higher education will play a critical role in nurturing future generations of leaders to advance the vision of deeper ties between the two countries.

As a proud alumna, I am delighted that Georgetown University is working towards setting up a program in Indonesia, the first U.S. university to do so. At this fascinating juncture in Indonesian history, AmCham Singapore will be hosting a lunch chat with Professor Yuhki Tajima, Director of the Asia Studies Program. I look forward to moderating the event!

Register here for the lunch event on Feb 26, 2024 from 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM at AmCham Singapore.

There is no doubt that micro small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) and startups are the backbone of the ASEAN economy, with over 70 million MSMEs in the region. The Digital Economy Framework Agreement can open up tremendous socio-economic opportunities for these businesses across industries. This is a pivotal moment for ASEAN as the governments here have the opportunity to develop high-standard digital trade rules, and can consider drawing from existing Digital Economy Agreements in the region, Free Trade Agreements such as CPTPP, and the principles outlined in Japan’s Data Free Flows with Trust (DFFT) framework. Cross-border data flows are essential for unlocking innovation and prosperity for ASEAN.
