As I look back 2023, which was an immensely difficult year for me, I think about the path I have taken to get where I am today. [long post warning]

2006: was working as a barista, bored in a new city and wanting to help others…became a volunteer firefighter 🧑‍🚒(I loved it). They put me through EMT training (loved it even more).

2007: started working with a private ambulance 🚑company in downtown Seattle (during the next 3 years I was shot at, rig totalled in a hit in run that jacked my back for life, saved lives, delivered a baby, met my future husband. My father passed away in November 2007.

2010: became an emergency room technician. 🩺 Loved being able to learn more skills and work with amazing staff in helping others.

2014: got married 💜. My mother was diagnosed with early on set Alzheimer’s end of this year.

2016: moved my mom into our home to care for her. Same year my son was born 👶. We cared for her for two years.

2017: I quit my job in healthcare, no longer able to work 12 hour shifts and care for my infant son and mother. Became a school bus driver 🚌

2018: end of 2018, I made the difficult decision to move my mom into memory care. Started working as an admin for the school district.

2019: recruited for a contract job at Microsoft as a Business Administrator. 💻 was good at it and realized this was the career I really enjoyed. Was offered full time with MSFT 3 months into my contract. Happily accepted (thank you Scott & Desmond for believing in me).

2020: pandemic happened. Crap year for us all. My mother passed away that December. 💔

2021: went to Xbox, meet one of the most influential and impactful leaders I have ever supported. Thank you Ada for the example of leadership you show every day.

2023: started a new role in security, which was my first area at MSFT. New person again on a team can be hard, but challenges can make us better. Lost my best friend on December 8th. 👯‍♀️💔

As I look back, I see a path taken I never would have anticipated when I graduated high school. Skills, experiences learned, and friendships that have all shaped me.

Your path may seem odd or different. But it’s your path. Find your way and what brings you joy or passion. It took me a winding road to get here, but I’m here and proud of what I have experienced to shape the person I am today.

I wish you all peace, love, and work/life happiness in 2024.

Happy New Year 🎆🎊
