Filecoin was designed to store "humanity's most important information."
Today there's more than 1.6 EiB of data stored on the network. To put that in perspective, the entire written works of humanity from the beginning of recorded history in all languages are estimated to be around 50 PB. 1.6 EiB is about 32 times that amount. 🤓
But what, exactly, are people storing on the network? Here's a list of orgs storing data on Filecoin, courtesy of Messari:
- The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute is safeguarding and sharing research data.
- Democracy’s Library is storing datasets collected by the Internet Archive at the end of each American presidential administration.
- SETI Institute is using Filecoin to store astronomical research data.
- UC Berkeley is collaborating with Seal Storage for storing physics research.
- GenRAIT is leveraging Estuary to store critical genomics data on Filecoin.
- Starling Lab is storing sensitive digital records of human history.
- Ewesion (China's fastest growing host of graphic files) is using Filecoin for data preservation.
- DeSci Labs is using decentralized data storage on Filecoin to enable research to be reproduced and independently verified by other researchers.
- Opscientia (OpSci) leveraging Filecoin to make it easier for scientists around the world to share data.
- Destor and Seal Storage are collaborating on an AI data integrity improvement research project with Cyber SMART, an industry-university cooperative funded by the National Science Foundation and industry members.
