Rachel Los

PhD student in theoretical biophysics at Technische Universiteit Delft

Rachel Los is a multi-talented person with a strong background in nanobiology, biophysics, and computational biology. She completed her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Erasmus University Rotterdam and Delft University of Technology. Rachel completed a Master's thesis project collaborating with research groups at Erasmus MC and TU Delft, where she investigated the binding affinity and nuclease activity of Cas9, both experimentally and computationally. Rachel has since developed a keen interest in combining biophysics and computational biology to tackle research questions in the field of nanobiology.

Additionally, Rachel has worked as a Teaching Assistant for Soft Matter Physics and Electronic Instrumentation and was a Product Engineer Intern at VSPARTICLE. She also performed the role of Commissioner of External Affairs at S.V.N.B. Hooke and volunteered on the Communications team at The Ocean Cleanup. Currently, Rachel serves as a PhD student in theoretical biophysics at Technische Universiteit Delft.

I graduated!

A few weeks ago, on the 4th of July, I defended my master thesis titled 'In vitro and in silico analysis of the effect of target sequence on Cas9 binding and cleavage' which entailed an interdisciplinary approach to understanding on-targeting behaviour of Cas9. The project was awarded a 8.5/10 and with this I officially finished my Nanobiology Masters Degree!

Special thanks to both dr. ir. Joyce Lebbink and dr. Martin Depken for their supervision and the opportunity to work between their labs during the past year.

For now, I am looking for new opportunities either in research or outside. So please let me know if you have any ideas.
