The other day an Ounce of Care team member shared that she has helped 30+ residents receive energy assistance payments through LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) in her first couple of months onsite... and this was just at a single property. Most residents at that property live off of $500-$1500/month, so this program is an invaluable resource and, in some cases, a lifeline. Reducing energy bills and avoiding utility shut-off gives residents immediate stress relief so that they can focus on what really matters - their families & friends, their community, and their health. "Social Drivers of Health" is such an unapproachable term, but this is what this work looks like in action. It is tangible and measurable. This work is also proof to our residents that when we say our team is here to help, we follow-up and follow through. So it won't be the last time our team works with and serves those residents - we're just getting started.
