Angel Investor & Managing Partner, Equanimity Investments @rnsehgal

I am a long term investor with tremendous breadth and depth of experience managing early stage investments, private equity and public equity funds for over 2 decades. I have on-the-ground experience across emerging market countries, analysing various industries and businesses spanning different stages of their lifecycle. I am relentless in my quest to further my understanding of the world and bring to bear this rich experience in refining my investment approach which results in superior decision making and delivering better investment performance.

I am a Wharton alumni in addition to being an XLRI management graduate specialising in finance and marketing. I am a CFA charter holder and have earned a post-graduate diploma in Securities Law from Mumbai University. However, Physics remains my first love and physical cosmology doesn't stop enchanting me with newer ways to look at the universe we live in. See the Equanimity logo for the physics angle 😉

I live in Mumbai with my wife and two children. I'm passionate about Chess and Golf but what makes me really tick is mentoring entrepreneurs and managements in making this world a better place on their way to achieve commercial success.

If you're an early-stage founder, you’re likely feeling the impact of the recent decline in venture capital funding.

Here are some practical tips based on my experience:

  1. Master your burn rate. Be mindful of every expense. Cut unnecessary costs and focus on extending your financial runway.

  2. Focus on profitable growth. Instead of chasing growth at all costs, concentrate on revenue streams that are profitable and sustainable.

  3. Streamline and automate. Invest in tools that enhance productivity and automate repetitive tasks to increase efficiency.

  4. Keep investors informed. Maintain transparency with your investors. Share both your successes and challenges to build trust and potentially secure additional support.

  5. Explore alternative funding. Look beyond traditional venture capital. Consider strategic partnerships, revenue-based financing, and crowdfunding as alternative funding sources.

The startup journey can be challenging.

But, by managing your burn rate, focusing on profitability, and being transparent, you can navigate these tough times and emerge stronger.
