Ramya Ramalingam

Incoming Graduate Student at UPenn

Ramya Ramalingam is a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Pennsylvania, where she began her studies in August 2021.2 Prior to her doctoral studies, she graduated with high distinction from Harvey Mudd College in 2021, earning a B.S. in Mathematics and Computer Science with departmental honors in Mathematics.1

As a Researcher at AMISTAD Lab from August 2020 to May 2023, Ramya studied generalization error bounds of machine learning algorithms.2 She co-authored a paper on these error bounds using algorithm capacity, which measures the mutual information between the distribution across training data sets and the distribution across hypotheses.2 This work was presented at the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks 2022.2

Ramya's research interests span theoretical computer science and machine learning, with a focus on areas such as uncertainty quantification, algorithmic game theory, and methods for correctness and fairness in systems with ML components.1 She has published several papers, including work on batch multivalid conformal prediction, practical adversarial multivalid conformal prediction, and optimized coverage planning for UV surface disinfection.1

During her time at Harvey Mudd College, Ramya was involved in various academic roles, including serving as a facilitator for Academic Excellence in the Department of Mathematics, and working as a tutor and grader for the Department of Computer Science.2 She also completed an internship at Google as an Engineering Practicum Intern, working with the API Client Tools team on Google Cloud Platform.2
