Highlights
Today, I joined an intriguing MIT Sloan School of Management webinar discussing the "The Human Factor". It was a thought-provoking session that delved into the often-discussed apprehension about AI: Could it replace humans in our jobs? But more compelling were the discussions on how AI is already enhancing our work environments in meaningful ways.
AI is and should continue to shape our approach to work in the following ways:
-
🖌 Designing Work: AI is becoming an indispensable tool, enabling humans to effortlessly integrate systems, tools, and other resources to streamline project completion.
-
💼 Conducting Work: AI's role in augmenting performance and processes is undeniable. It helps us avoid delays and boosts efficiency.
-
🤝 Supplying Workers: Platforms like Braintrust that use AI to help you find the best candidates for your hiring needs in less time, are a testament to how AI is revolutionizing the hiring process.
-
📊 Measuring Work and Workers: AI can also play a crucial role in workforce management. IBM’s use of AI models to predict which employees might leave is a great example of how predictive insights can lead to proactive retention strategies.
While AI’s capabilities are impressive, the importance of human judgment remains even more crucial. This is particularly vital in areas like writing recommendation letters, where AI's biases could misrepresent someone's capabilities based on their gender.
AI is revolutionizing the way we work, but it's crucial that humans remain as final decision makers. What are your thoughts on finding the right balance between utilizing AI and maintaining human oversight in your industry?

WebSummit LLC gave me an inside look at the vibrant, collaborative, and impactful Brazilian tech ecosystem. It was inspiring to listen to founders share stories about how they are using tech for social impact with water sanitation, cancer treatments, and advocacy for indigenous land.
Through every interaction I gained a new perspective and here are my top 3 takeaways from the summit:
- The importance of falling in love with the problem, not the solution The key to building a sustainable company is to stay focused on your why, and pivot your how as needed. Asking why more often is a mindset shift I'm excited to bring into my work.
- Web3 + Crypto is creating financial inclusion Web3 and crypto allows broader access to markets is incredible. It's not just about technology but about creating financial empowerment for more people. This was a refreshing reminder of the value of crypto.
- AI in Business - Is it needed? AI is a tool to help you achieve a greater solution to your problem, however, it's critical to decide when it is truly beneficial when it might just be a distraction. Work with intentionality!
The energy of the Brazilian tech ecosystem was infectious, full of impactful companies and innovative founders. There’s a lot we could learn from their approach to tech with a purpose. #websummitrio #websummit #brazil
