As of July '24, there are approximately 900K young people (ages 16-24) in the U.K. who are classified as NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training). They are talented, yet face systemic 'hurdles' which hinder their becoming EET (in Education, Employment and Training).    Last week, I was fortunate to accompany my colleagues in celebrating the dynamic leadership and meaningful 2024 impact of several London-based nonprofit executives (and the organizations they lead) - all of whom are making a meaningful difference in the lives of talented young people in London and throughout the U.K., ensuring they have the skills, wraparound support services, mentorship, access to professional networks and employers to enable their economic access and upward mobility.    Kudos to the following organizations, their leadership, talented teams, partnership methodologies, and the young people they so passionately serve:    City Gateway's mission is to transform the futures of economically disadvantaged young people and women by providing education, training, and employment opportunities.   Generation UK & Ireland's mission is to transform the education-to-employment system by preparing, placing, and supporting people into life-changing careers that would otherwise be inaccessible to them. They aim to bridge the gap between education and meaningful employment through tailored training programs that address the specific needs of both job seekers and employers.

Impetus - Backing the best' mission is to transform the lives of young people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds by ensuring they receive the right support to succeed in school, in work, and in life. They achieve this by providing long-term, unrestricted funding to high-potential nonprofits, along with the expertise of their dedicated investment team and world-class pro-bono network.

MCR Pathways' mission is to ensure that all young people, particularly those who are care-experienced (i.e., Foster care in the U.S.) or facing significant challenges, achieve equality in education outcomes, career opportunities, and life chances.

Resurgo's mission is to create a society where everyone collaborates to mend its fabric by helping individuals and organizations play their part in driving social change.

Sister System's mission is to bridge the gap between care-affected girls (i.e., foster care in the U.S.) and mainstream society by working alongside them to ensure they have the same opportunities as everyone else in various aspects of life, including home, school, work, and community.   ThinkForward UK' mission is to empower young people facing barriers to employment by providing long-term, personalized coaching. Their goal is to help these individuals develop the confidence, independence, and skills necessary to transition successfully into work or further education.   #London #UnitedKingdom #EquityThroughOpportunity #Leadership #NonprofitSector #EconomicAccess #WorkforceDevelopment

The New York City nonprofit sector represents 9.4% of the city's economic output and employs 660K+ individuals. What isn't often stated is that these organizations and their talented teams are usually at the front lines when it comes to local emergencies and crises to meet the differentiated needs of its residents, as they are deeply embedded within the communities they serve.

Since 2022, nearly 175K migrants/asylum seekers have arrived in NYC; the nonprofit community has worked closely with City government, institutions, and fellow nonprofits - all to meet the immediate needs of its newest residents. One such organization is the Educational Alliance at the Manny Cantor Center in the Lower East Side.

My colleagues and I attended the Educational Alliance's "Welcome to New York Work Authorization Clinic," where we assisted asylum-seeking New, New Yorkers in completing their work authorization forms to obtain employment in the U.S. The room was filled with families - all of whom had organized folders of paperwork and hopes and dreams (and understandable anxiety) of being able to work and lead a choice-filled life in their new geographic context.

I am inspired by Jamie Davidson, Executive Director, and her motivated team, for their leadership and commitment to supporting the NYC community - from the oldest residents to its newest.
