One of the key themes of research at Tanglin Venture Partners is to look for large, traditional, broken spaces that have seen limited innovation and are prime for disruption. Consumer durables is one such category with large legacy brands that have shown no evidence of any real customer-led innovation. These brands primarily seek to maintain market share via massive marketing budgets, with negligible investment in R&D. We believe that the space is ready for a new brand, created from scratch, to meet the consumer needs of today.

When we met the Lifelong Online team in early 2019, they had shown the ability to challenge these legacy brands by their continuous and iterative focus on customer-insights led innovation. Lifelong was able to develop affordable and reliable products with better specifications at a significantly lower price. With a super-fast new product development cycle of 2-3 months (vs 12-18 months for traditional brands), they were able to expand into multiple categories rapidly. That gave us the conviction to lead their Series A round.

Congratulations to Bharat, Varun, Atul and the entire Lifelong Online team on your new partnership with Carlos and the team at Thrasio. We at Tanglin are extremely proud to be early partners and are looking forward to being on this journey of building a technology-first next-generation consumer goods platform for India.
