Rebecca Hall

Fungal biologist

Rebecca Hall is a lecturer in Microbial Adaptation at the University of Kent, not the University of Birmingham. She joined the University of Kent in April 2020.13 Her research focuses on fungal biology and pathogenicity, particularly studying opportunistic fungal pathogens like Candida albicans.12

Dr. Hall completed her PhD at the University of Kent in 2007, investigating how the nematode C. elegans adapts to environmental pH.1 She then held postdoctoral positions at Kent, the University of Aberdeen, and the University of Birmingham, where she was an independent research fellow funded by a Medical Research Council Career Development Award.12

Her current research interests include:

  1. How fungi adapt to the host environment and how this adaptation promotes virulence
  2. Interactions between fungi and the microbiome
  3. Identification of novel antifungal treatments
  4. Polymicrobial interactions and antimicrobial resistance
  5. The effects of microbial signaling molecules on human health
  6. Characterization of the fungal cell wall12

Dr. Hall is active in scientific outreach and professional societies. She is a member of the British Mycological Society Education and Outreach committee and the Microbiology Society Eukaryotic Division.2
