Rebecca Mascarenhas

Proprietor At Sonny's Kitchen

Rebecca Mascarenhas is a London restaurateur who is considered the "queen of neighbourhood restaurants".1 She owned Sonny's in Barnes, which she opened in 1986.1 After 33 years, Sonny's closed and was replaced by Church Road, a modern British restaurant.1 Mascarenhas also co-owns Elystan Street in Chelsea and Kitchen W8 in Kensington with chef Phil Howard, both of which have Michelin stars, as well as Home SW15 in Putney.1

Mascarenhas initially trained as an actress but found waitressing more appealing.12 She worked for Bob Payton at Chicago Pizza Pie Factory and later managed Victor Lownes' company.2 Mascarenhas says that she is good with figures, which is important in the restaurant business.2 She also values company ethos and teamwork.2
