Renee Petrina

Helping higher ed thrive in the online learning space

Renee Petrina is a seasoned professional in the field of online learning and instructional design with a wealth of experience. At Indiana University, she plays a pivotal role in the development of over 450 online courses annually and manages various projects while cultivating relationships with academic leaders. Renowned for her leadership, Renee led the launch of IU's inaugural edX programs in collaboration with the prestigious Kelley School of Business in 2018. Her outstanding contributions led to a promotion in 2020 to a managerial position overseeing the expansion of edX initiatives across all seven IU campuses. She has overseen the development of diverse programs such as the Data Science MS at IU Bloomington, collaborative graduate certificates in Chemistry and Biology across multiple campuses, and grant-funded modules aimed at enhancing career readiness for undergraduates. Additionally, Renee mentors instructional designers at different career levels to achieve their professional objectives. Notably, she is an expert in the Quality Matters rubric, holds certification to conduct QM workshops, and has presented at the QM conference on five occasions. Besides her role at IU, Renee has a rich educational background, including a B.A. from Penn State University, an MS from Indiana University Bloomington, and studies at GSGIS. Prior to her tenure at IU, she was involved in teaching and course design at Ball State University and the Defense Information School of the U.S. military. Early in her career, Renee excelled as a professional journalist with a focus on newspaper copy editing.
