BOKA is a global investment group focused on identifying, vetting, funding and enabling deep tech companies which can address the critical National Security mission needs of the of the AUKUS Alliance – the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia – as well as other close allies around the world.
At BOKA our goal is not only to provide the funding critical to enable growth of companies we invest in, but to also leverage our knowledge, expertise and experience to help supercharge that growth. By bringing this to bear we help our portfolio companies achieve success and deliver mission critical capabilities for our customers and partners - and of course it benefits us as investors.
In this endeavor I am joining both some new friends and some old friends, all of us committed to supporting the National Security needs of the US and our close allies. I have to once again thank my incredible team at Amazon Web Services (AWS) who helped me prove out the model I envisioned for supporting startups across their journey. Without your committed excellence, this would still be just fanciful ideas in my head – you all helped refine it, improve it, and turn it into real programs that deliver exceptional value to our startups, our partners and our Public Sector customers. Parting is such sweet sorrow............but the future is bright! It is with a feeling of distinct melancholy that I have departed AWS after more than 7 years. I have thoroughly enjoyed most of my time at AWS, so departing is bittersweet – but for various reasons, this is the right time.
It has been my distinct pleasure, indeed it has been my honor, to work closely with an absolutely unbelievable collection of people across Amazon and AWS – it was without question the best part of working for AWS.
Working with these incredible people allowed us to accomplish amazing things. I am especially proud of the various AWS Accelerators we created and ran over the last 3 years, and all the companies we were able to engage and assist in their journeys. I also take great pride in the fact that we were able to do this while supporting the National Security needs of the US and the UK and other close allies. However, the business has clearly pivoted and no longer prioritizes startups in the way that it once did – honestly the business is simply going in a different direction. Therefore, it is time for me to move on.
In the next few days, I will share details of my next opportunity, but assuredly it will remain focused on enabling startups and supporting National Security.
I wish all of my amazing coworkers the best of luck, and will always remain proud to have worked with you all.
