Highlights
My tenth The Times CEO summit … and the best to date.
When I started planning the summit along with Belinda Raynes last November we expected to be in the run up to a general election campaign - not in the midst of one.
The timing was almost as auspicious as the 2016 CEO Summit which came five days after the Brexit vote.
It was great to have both Rt Hon Rachel Reeves and Jeremy Hunt make their pitch for for the business vote: But my highlights were:
Emma Walmsley telling the summit that GSK remains “unequivocally, 100 per cent committed” to retaining its listing in Britain - https://lnkd.in/g-uHXWsc
Barclays' CS Venkatakrishnan on social media's lack of respect for facts. "It is as if what is asserted and repeated is the truth" - https://lnkd.in/gkmvkty2
And Alex Mahon on her number one wish for the next government: "Don't mess it up" - "https://lnkd.in/gPAkY6Uq
Mehreen Khan managed to get a splash out of the Rt Hon Rachel Reeves with a commitment not to impose VAT on private school fees retrospectively - https://lnkd.in/gX84SpJk
And we even managed to produce a story for the Sports desk with our final fireside chat with Jim Ratcliffe who talked about “lots of bad surprises” at Manchester United- https://lnkd.in/gkf6DkPC
Patrick Hosking has wrapped it all beautifully together here - https://lnkd.in/g-2UyEjZ
Thanks to James Hurley and Amy Wilson-Watson for pulling together the editorial coverage. Hannah Prevett and Dominic O'Connell for hosting. And of course Jackie Stradling.
And as ever to Belinda Raynes and the rest of the News UK events team Francesca Markwell (nee Perkins), Stephen Laughlin, Carli Bardwell, Victoria Scott, Yasmin Warner, James Leach and Charlotte Caidan.
Final bits of prep underway for tomorrow's The Times CEO Summit. Seven months of planning and cajoling and we are almost there.
Jeremy Hunt and Rachel Reeves will both take a break from knocking on doors and make their pitch for the “business vote”.
Other speakers include GSK's Emma Walmsley, Barclays' CS Venkatakrishnan, BT's Allison Kirkby, Vodafone's Margherita Della Valle, BA's Sean Doyle and Channel 4's Alex Mahon.
We’ll have a live blog up and running tomorrow morning on www.thetimes.com which will have highlights from all of the sessions and speakers. You can also follow @TimesBusiness on X or the hashtag #TimesCEOSummit for the very latest throughout the day.
