Highlights
I want to echo all of the positive sentiments that folks are sharing out right now about the Possibility Space team. This was a mind-blowing ensemble of talent. We set out to create experiences that genuinely improve people's lives and bring them closer to their friends and this team could have pulled that dream off under better circumstances. I'd like to share a message that I—with Austin Walker's help—wrote last year to Elijah Wood (my good friend—via Cameo, not that that matters, pretty sure we're best friends in real life now actually). "Hello! I am the creative director on a game development team and our team has just gone through a particularly tough set of milestones over the last few months. We made some large creative pivots to the game and the team rallied together to make amazing progress and overcome those challenges and the game is on a great track. Our path forward on this project hasn't always been clear though our goal has always been the same—to create a wonderful experience where folks can spend quality time with their friends. I am intensely proud of this team and what we have accomplished together. We still have a long way to go on our project and I wanted to reach out to you to get a message to congratulate the team at Possibility Space on what they have accomplished so far—there's no way we could have made it through as well as we have without the entire team coming together—and cheer them on for our continuing journey. Maybe a little something about taking a bit of time around the holidays to rest and spend time with friends and family? Thank you so much for your time!" The video hits a little different now, but the message that I want it to convey to the Possibility Space team is: Everything is incredibly discouraging right now. While it is hard, it is good and important and right to create art. The journey may be fraught. It may not go the way you think it will. Please endure. This industry needs you all. The people whose lives we are trying to improve with our art are still out there and they need you to keep going. Love to you all. I remain intensely proud of you. To folks out there currently building teams: Your team would be better if you had one (OR MORE!) of these folks on it. Hire them. Elijah Wood wants you to hire them*.
