Richard Riman is a Distinguished Professor at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where he has been for over 37 years.2 He is a co-founder and Chief Science Advisor of Queens Carbon, a startup developing hydrothermal processing technology to reduce energy consumption in cement production and enable low-cost carbon capture.21

Riman holds a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Ceramic Engineering from Rutgers University.1 His research focuses on sustainable manufacturing of ceramic materials, advanced composite materials, and CO2 supply chains.2

In addition to his work with Queens Carbon, Riman has founded other companies:

  1. Solidia Technologies, Inc. (founded in 2007), which provides technology solutions to the building and construction material industries.2
  2. RRTC (founded in 2010), which manufactures Advanced Composite Materials.2

Riman has received numerous honors and awards, including the Rutgers University Board of Trustees 2009 Excellence in Research Award and the 2013 R&D 100 Award.2 He is also a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society and an Academician of the World Academy of Ceramics.2

At Rutgers, Riman is a professor in the Department of Materials Science & Engineering, where he focuses on developing engineering principles for materials synthesis and processing of ceramics, particularly in low-temperature green ceramic manufacturing processes.3
