Richard Stratford is a seasoned professional in the field of life sciences, with a diverse academic background and extensive experience in executive leadership and business development roles. He holds a Ph.D. in Immunology and Molecular Biology from Imperial College London and a BSc in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, and Physiology from Newcastle University. Richard currently serves as the CEO of NEC OncoImmunity AS, building on his prior experience as the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of OncoImmunity AS. Previously, he worked as an independent business development consultant at Singleøen Mekaniske Verksted AS, Head of Business Development at LingVitae, and Business Development Manager at SingVax Pte Ltd and Microscience.
Highlights
Today is my last day as the Chief Executive Officer at NEC OncoImmunity AS (NOI) after deciding to leave this amazing 10 year journey. A little sad because I will miss working with the amazingly talented team that we built. A wonderful team that uses their highly sought after skills on the cutting edge of AI, bioinformatics, and medicine to help cure individual cancer patients using immunotherapy and using AI to design universal vaccines to combat life-threatening infectious disease. It is also a happy day, because now I look forward to the next exciting chapter and the new challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed towards NOI’s success over the years – our success would not have been possible without you. I would particularly like to thank Anders Tuv and Jonas Einarsson at RADFORSK Investeringsstiftelse and Eivind Hovig who first believed in our vision. I would also like to thank our initial board members Svenn Widerberg and Tom A. Thorsen who with our initial chairman, Anders Tuv, helped guide the company and shape its early progress that eventually led to our successful growth and acquisition in 2019. In addition, I would like to thank Kjetil Holmefjord at Startuplab and Øyvind Grotmol for their committed and hands-on approach as second-round investors. I am also eternally grateful to our many collaborators, in particular Ludvig A Munthe and Jon Amund Kyte at Oslo University Hospital and Ola Myklebost at the University of Bergen (UiB), and our friends and collaborators at Ultimovacs and Lytix Biopharma. Also, huge kudos to Ketil F. Widerberg and Jutta Heix and the rest of the team at the Oslo Cancer Cluster for their tireless support and championing the company over the years. And finally, I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the NOI employees, past and present, in particular our NEC colleagues Akira Kitamura and Naoko Yamagata and my co-founder Trevor Clancy who has worked tirelessly on the project. I now look forward to following and supporting the company’s progress from a distance, initially as an advisor (for the next 6 months), and then subsequently as a proud member of the NOI alumni.
