Highlights
A great week for Green Hydrogen and Renewable Energy in South Africa, a few of the highlights include:
- The South African Green Hydrogen Summit 2023
- Anglo American Platinum, BMW and Sasol collaboration agreement that will bring hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) and supporting hydrogen refuelling technology to South Africa.
- The Eastern Cape (EC) and the Northern and Western Cape Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), solidifying their commitment to establishing a conducive institutional framework and inter-provincial coordination to enhance localised renewable energy production.
- The Northern Cape have formulated a Masterplan that addresses the critical challenges and benefits of Green Hydrogen, establishing a clear timeline and path for implementation, identifying the contributions for each stakeholder, formulating key risk mitigation strategies and promoting engagement with the relevant parties.
- Cabinet has approved the Green Hydrogen Commercialisation Strategy (GHCS) for implementation, with the goal of positioning South Africa as a major producer and exporter of green hydrogen.
- The Presidential Climate Commission (PCC) Energy Dialogue on Green Hydrogen. These dialogues will form the basis of their work on the broader energy agenda and the sectorial mitigation pathways under a low carbon economy.
I’m personally especially proud to be part of the Northern Cape Green Hydrogen family and would encourage everyone to have a look at the Master Plan: https://www.ncgh2.co.za/
