Highlights
Over the past two weeks, I've had the opportunity to sit down with 20+ customers to discuss the #CIAM landscape and their challenges. Here is what I heard.
Firstly, #CIAM is not a problem that can be solved by a single department. Engineering/CTO, marketing, security, and IT teams all need to work together to align requirements and consider the impact of user sign-up/sign-in flows.
Secondly, one of the biggest debates in #CIAM is what constitutes a user's identity. Is it their phone number, email, or government-issued ID? This leads to a series of technical questions that need to be addressed by CIAM solutions, such as what can be used as a login ID, whether the login ID can be changed, how can the users be merged based on these IDs, and whether both phone and email logins can be supported for the same user.
These discussions highlighted the fact that customer journeys are complex and evolve over time as businesses' needs change. Solutions need to be flexible enough to support these changes without adding complexity for end-users and implementers.
