Import Survey Results – 95% Use Excel and Email   The chaos of the last few years exposed the fragility of the import supply chain. We are excited to release our 2022 Global Importing Benchmark Report, which may be helpful as a benchmark for how your import supply chain compares to others in the industry.    Yesterday, we talked about how many entities, teams and people it takes to get import products to market. You can find that post here. https://lnkd.in/gp3P8cAn   Today we are going to talk about the tools companies use to manage their imports.   While most importers utilized their ERP system to plan and create purchase orders (PO), 95% reported that they used a mix of PDFs, Excel, and email to manage orders during the purchasing and shipping processes.    An average order undergoes 7 changes, requires more than 300 emails, and takes more than 10 hours to complete.    The amount of labor required to manage all of this is intense for both the supplier and the importer. Unlike domestic procurement, imported products are made to order, and take 3 months on average to be manufactured and 1 month to ship.

Risk: Analog tools limit an importers ability to scale, analyze, secure, organize, access, and improve the information required to optimize their purchasing and shipping.

It's been interesting to dissect this survey to learn how importers import. However it also highlights how much opportunity exists for importers to improve their profits and sales.

In my final post for this series I am going to share my observations and recommendations on how importers can transform their supply chains.   For a full view of the 2022 results and to see how your company stacks up against the competition, download a full copy of the Mercado 2022 Global Importing Benchmark Report for free here: https://lnkd.in/gqKWdAQV    #supplychain #supplychainmanagement #globalsupplychain #supplychainoptimization #benchmark #2022
