Mother's Day…a celebration honoring the matriarch of a family or the strong figure with those same instincts toward those they hold close - as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers and women in general, with all they do and bring to society.
It is celebrated on different days in many parts of the world – and here in the U.S., that happens to be Sunday, May 12. My mother passed last year at 98 years young, after a long, lucid, colorful and gifted life. She truly got life’s E ticket! I want to relate some things about her that show the DNA we share! My mother learned to text at 90. She used FaceTime and her iPad to keep in touch, she never went anywhere without her iPhone and a charger, read the paper online, and used the internet to seek out information on things she was curious about. Most of all, she wanted to keep in touch with her multigenerational family, and to do that, she met them where they were. Where they were communicating, that is. She showed up! Any fears she had about using technology were minimized by her desire to stay connected. She was a great role model for her generation. Like many mothers have learned, it was important for her to speak her family’s language, to overlook traditional modes of communicating that were more familiar and comfortable for her, because that was less important than her goal. In the end, she loved it! She saw the ease and accessibility of both people and information. And I treasured that about her, as much as I enjoyed seeing her get down on the floor to play with her grandchildren (which I never, ever saw her do before!). And despite her late-stage love of communications tech, when my son Hunter asked her which of all the amazing advances she’d lived through in her life was her favorite, whether it was modernized cars, the moon walk, color TV, the microwave, the sophistication of air travel and so on, her answer was a simple one: “Oh, honey, far and away the dishwasher.” I am a lucky guy, charmed with a great progressive mother, a phenomenal wife and mother to my kids and now two bad-ass daughters-in-law, one who is already a mother, and another who is just about there! (Come on, September!) Wherever you keep your mother close to your heart, or if you are a mother or like-a-mother yourself, as we celebrate all mothers’ influences on our lives and on society this Sunday, I hope you have the most wonderful memories and stories to share.

Now more than ever, employee experience is inextricably linked with customer experience.
The employees actually interacting with clients and customers are most responsible for delivering the brand, setting expectations, fulfilling commitments, impressing the end user, and accepting feedback.
And then they must be empowered to deliver that feedback, positive or not, to the right people in the company.
To do that, they need the right skilling, colleagues, communications tools and access, respect for their roles as ambassadors, and the kind of transparency and recognition of their input and ideas that shows them that their contributions are reaching someone and being put to use.
I'm not telling you anything you don't already know. But we can do this better and better.
Done well, we sustain a healthy and successful employee-customer loop that keeps improving experience, engagement, and brand awareness on both sides. And yes - emotional investment, too.
