Proud to announce that my new Honours Class is open to enroll for students from Leiden University! The subject for this year is 'AI in the Physical and Virtual World'
I think the first editions of my courses on VR & AR were the most successful, as students were in a situation to come up with truly novel concepts. As these media matured, students were too often confronted with the reality that the ideas they came up with already existed.
This year we aim to find new user experiences for interacting with AI, allowing for social experiences in a shared space. I don't think this has received a lot of attention; the focus has largely been on what generative AI can actually do.
This gives us a lot of space to explore, which makes me excited for this course. I'll try to find a way to share insights and projects, stay tuned!
From the course description: "Artificial Intelligence can feel quite abstract; like pure intelligence that is stripped from any physical form. We interact with AI through an anonymous chat interface or by speaking into the void, almost like communicating with an omniscient deity. In this course we will explore the roles that AI can take and the shapes it could have. We discuss classical humanoid robots and smart vacuum cleaners. And we try to come up with more exotic physical forms, like intelligent artworks and store assistants. By giving AI a place in the world, we aim to make AI less abstract and trigger social interaction."
