It’s Labor Day weekend and time for THE robot movie about worker displacement by robots, elite theory, and mayhem. Yes, I’m talking Metropolis, the 1927 classic silent film by Fritz Lang and the first movie with a robot. If you haven’t seen it, you’ll realize that other movies and advertisements have sampled clips from it for nearly 100 years. There are lots of versions available as film historians reconstruct old copies and lost footage (I try to watch them all), but my favorite is Giorgio Moroder's Metropolis with Queen providing the soundtrack (1984). That sounds… awful? sacrilegious? but it works. You can watch it online for free with your library card at @Kanopy: https://lnkd.in/gj2deedM

Looking for a Friday robot movie? Hard to believe it's been 10 years since Robin Williams death... why not (re) watch Bicentennial Man, the film version of one of Isaac Asimov's famous books? It's a sweet story and perfect for snuggling with the family on the couch; the little ones may drop off to sleep but the older ones will be intrigued by Andrew's logic, and it's fun to spot Sam Neill, Stephen Root, Whitney Bradford, Oliver Platt, and other actors. check out more robot movies at https://lnkd.in/eyvBrZm
