Last week, David Eriksson and I held a mini game jam for these lovely (and lively) Chinese visitors, who made it up north thru https://www.moosegoose.se/ . They had 30 mins to ideate, before presenting. I was totally overwhelmed with their level of engagement and no fear attitude which took them really far and they delivered their presentations with perfect English. Extremely impressed with their creativity and communication skills, we all speak the same gaming language, despite geographically and culturally being so far apart in many ways. It reminds me of how far globalisation has come. When I graduated at a US University 25 yrs ago, all I wanted to do was to work Internationally. For different reasons, I still decided to head home to Skellefteå, a very homogenous population/place. With the creation of North Kingdom / NoA we were able to show and prove that you can work from Skellefteå with the world at your feet. Now Skellefteå is becoming a multi-cultural place where you might even find menus in English. Bravo. Today, you can work anywhere in the world and taste the global flavour.
But as I ponder the state of our world, a troubling thought crosses my mind – are we witnessing the peak of globalization? With conflicts escalating and divisions deepening, it feels like we're regressing to a time of isolation and distrust among cultures. How do we resist the pull towards isolationism, reaffirming our commitment to inclusivity and interconnectedness? While I am influenced by the openness from my years in America, I do worry, that things will become more segregated in years to come, but I will refuse to go down the isolation route and miss out on learning from kids and people from all over the world.
