Romain Quidant

Professor at ETH Zürich

Romain Quidant is a highly accomplished physicist with a PhD in Physics from the University of Dijon, France. He has an extensive academic background, starting as a postdoctoral researcher at ICFO and later becoming a junior Professor and group leader of the Plasmon NanoOptics group at ICFO.

With nearly 18 years of experience at ICFO, Romain Quidant recently joined ETH Zurich's Mechanical and Process Engineering department in June 2020. He has a prestigious track record, having received 5 ERC grants and numerous international and national prizes for his outstanding contributions to the field.

As the Editor-in-chief of ACSPhotonics since January 2022, Romain Quidant leads cutting-edge research in nano-optics, bridging Photonics and Nanotechnology. His work encompasses a broad spectrum of disciplines, from fundamental physics to biotechnology and medicine, with a focus on enhanced light/matter interaction and optomechanics.

Romain Quidant's team at ETH Zurich is dedicated to exploring innovative strategies for controlling light and heat at the nanoscale, particularly for biomedical applications like lab-on-a-chip technology, targeted hyperthermia, and reconfigurable planar optics. Their multidisciplinary approach combines basic and applied research to address scientific and technological challenges.
