Backtesting trading strategies on TradingView? You may be using their 'Max Drawdown' metric wrong. Free code snippet inside!
The 'Max Drawdown' in Tradingview's backtesting tool shows you what the maximum drawdown of any one trade was across all trades in your strategy, and it's a good risk metric.
What most investors and traders actually want to know is what the greatest drawdown over multiple trades and even across the entire strategy was - the whole peak to bottom. That's something this metric won't tell you.
We have a solution, and it's free. You can get a free code snippet here: https://lnkd.in/gNqAX9Ng
It will help you not only accurately calculate Peak-to-Trough Drawdown cycles based on your minimum drawdown setting. It will tell you how high your previous peaks were, and you can even use the code to have it pause your strategy automatically if your drawdown limit is exceeded.
If you know someone who needs this info or the code snippet, feel free to share.
