Highlights
It started with a short message from a logistics company “Your shipment is on hold as the flight to Bangladesh was canceled due to civil unrest.” I emailed our customers to let them know, and all emails were bounced back.
I checked the news and was surprised to read that people died, 1,500 people were injured, the internet was cut off, and a curfew was imposed.

A Flashback from the Past: Micro-Inverter vs. DC Optimizers A close friend asked me to review a quotation for a solar system he wants to install on his roof. With the current power system here in California, he wants to save some money and have a power backup, especially on hot days. When he showed me the Enphase proposal, I asked him how it would work with batteries. It took me back to many discussions I had 10–15 years ago. My biggest argument with many of my expert friends was, “If we believe that the next thing in solar will be batteries for load management and backup in case of power outages, what is the point of taking DC from the panel, converting it to AC to feed the house or grid, then converting it again to DC to charge the batteries, and finally converting the DC from the batteries to AC to provide power to the house?” The system loses a few percent each time you convert DC to AC or vice versa. I did not get into the technical details related to anti-islanding, which adds a layer of complexity to such a system. It reminded me of the phrase for arguing with experts, “Don’t confuse me with facts.” Full disclosure – I’m biased and hold a position in a DC solution.
