Celebrating Portland's position as the Knife-Making Capital of the U.S. is getting a boost by the formal launch of community efforts around the Portland Knife Center of Excellence on August 24th. This builds on the region's existing reputation in outdoor and culinary fields. A large sweepstakes including over $5,000 of products from five brands will start on the 12th culminating in the National Knife Day event in Portland mid-day on the 24th (details for both on the website PKCOE.org). The Five leading knife brands are BENCHMADE, CRKT (Columbia River Knife & Tool), Leatherman Tool Group, Gerber-Tools.com, and STEELPORT Knife Co. Truly the most humbling part of the experience has been the rapid and selfless involvement of leaders in each organization. I am proud of our companies' partnerships and impressed by the leadership of my fellow executives Jon deAsis, Mark Schreiber, Ben Rivera, and Keith Carrato. In addition, it's impressive to see the broader list of companies that have stepped up to make this a reality - Thanks to Evolve, White Summers, Stack Metallurgical Group, SurfacePrep, Travel Portland, Travel Oregon, and College of Engineering – Oregon State University.
