Ron Kim

NYS lawmaker, antimonopolist, adjunct professor at Cornell

Ron Kim made history in November 2012 by becoming the first Korean-American elected to the New York State Legislature. Growing up as the only child of immigrant parents who owned a small grocery store, he witnessed the challenges faced by immigrants and small business owners in New York firsthand.

In September 2018, Ron made headlines as the first New York elected official to oppose Amazon's expansion into NYC, denouncing their exploitative practices. He advocated against subsidizing Amazon's growth and introduced landmark legislation redirecting corporate welfare funds towards canceling student debt.

Throughout his tenure, Ron championed legislation supporting small businesses, including expanding microloans and safeguarding mom-and-pop stores from unfair regulations. He is currently spearheading The Inclusive Value Ledger, aimed at transforming NY's $55 billion tax credits and social benefits into a public payment system.

A native of Flushing, Queens, Ron graduated from Riverdale Country Day School, obtained a B.A. in Political Science from Hamilton College, and a Master's in Public Administration from Baruch College. He resides in Flushing with his wife, Alison Tan, and their two daughters. Ron's athletic background includes playing college football at Hamilton College and winning the 2004 Bench Press Championship in Queens County.
