Ronald J. Strauss

Dr. Ronald J. Strauss, a Ph.D. and CPA, is currently serving as the Senior Associate Dean at Montclair State University's Feliciano School of Business in the USA since 2021. He has an extensive background in academia and the private sector, contributing significantly to the Accounting & Finance Department as a Professor from 2011 to 2021, where he also served as the Department Chair from 2018 to 2021.
In his current role, Dr. Strauss's primary focus is to enhance teaching quality, curriculum development, and faculty research within the Feliciano School of Business to provide students with a valuable and relevant higher education experience. His research interests encompass decoding ethical and governance aspects of financial disclosures, as well as examining executive compensation practices, notably highlighted in his co-authored book 'Wall Street Values- Business Ethics and The Global Financial Crisis' published by Cambridge University Press. Additionally, he held the prestigious position of Editor-in-Chief at the International Journal of Disclosure and Governance from 2018 to 2021.
Dr. Strauss teaches a wide range of undergraduate and graduate business and accounting courses, employing various teaching modalities to maximize student engagement. Some of the courses he leads include Ethics in Finance, Business using case methods, and Intermediate Accounting.
Bringing a wealth of experience from the private sector, Dr. Strauss spent twenty years at Merrill Lynch & Co., including significant time in Asia, particularly Japan. His leadership roles at Merrill Lynch included Senior Vice President positions such as Head of Global Wealth Management Investments, Chief Operating Officer of ML International, and President of ML Japan Securities, among others. He commenced his private sector career at KPMG NY, specializing in financial institutions for over six years.
Beyond academia and finance, Dr. Strauss has been an active member of various boards, contributing his expertise in audit, compliance, and compensation committees for both profit and non-profit organizations. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. from Rutgers Business School, and MS and BS degrees in Accounting and Business Administration from Binghamton University. Dr. Strauss also has roots in Stuyvesant High School in NYC, being a first-generation graduate.
Furthermore, Dr. Strauss has held roles as a Consulting Arborist at Lehman Plant Care and contributed as Faculty at Montclair State University. Additionally, he is the Owner of Tree Believers, showcasing his diverse skill set and interests in academia, finance, and environmental conservation.
