Rosalind Dixon

Rosalind Dixon is a Professor of Law at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Faculty of Law.12 She earned her BA and LLB from UNSW, followed by an LLM and SJD from Harvard Law School.1 Dixon's work focuses on comparative constitutional law, constitutional design, constitutional democracy, theories of constitutional dialogue and amendment, socio-economic rights, and constitutional law and gender.12

Dixon holds several prominent positions at UNSW, including:

  • Director of the Gilbert + Tobin Centre of Public Law
  • Deputy Director of the Herbert Smith Freehills Initiative on Law and Economics
  • Co-Director of the UNSW New Economic Equality Initiative (NEEI)
  • Academic co-lead of the Grand Challenge on Inequality1

She has published extensively in leading journals across the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia.1 Dixon is also a co-editor of several handbooks on comparative constitutional law and serves on the editorial boards of multiple legal journals.1

Prior to her current role, Dixon was an assistant professor at the University of Chicago Law School and has been a visiting professor at various prestigious institutions, including Columbia Law School and Harvard Law School.1 She is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law and Australian Academy of Social Sciences, and an ARC Future Fellow working on Constitutions and Democratic Resilience.1

In 2018, Dixon was named 'Academic of the Year' at the 18th Annual Lawyers Weekly Australian Law Awards.1 Her current research focuses on constitutional design and practice in response to democratic backsliding, as well as projects on economic equality and inclusion.1
