Yesterday was a big day for our small team! Bluesky officially opened to the world (bye, invites 👋). We opened to 1M users in the first days (40hrs) of open, and we now have 4M+ users.
It’s been one of my greatest joys to work with this team, and I can’t wait for what the future has in store. We might look like a Twitter alt on the surface, but below the hood, we have created the technology where any service, like feeds & moderation services, can be built by many users, not just one company. We have algorithmic feeds like For You (built by 3rd party devs), and feeds like cat pics 🐱, mushroom feeds 🍄, etc. We believe that our communication systems reflect our democracy, and that starts with giving users more choice and the freedom to leave platforms with their followers and posts (like how email and cell phone carriers work). Everything we do is open source, and we hope more creativity in social leads to less toxicity and open experimentation 💙🦋
