Yesterday, the chief advisor in his televised speech said the tenure of the interim government will be decided by the people.

What does the people think?

We ran online poll and phone call survey (targeting low income population) from August 16th to August 24th at BangladeshSpeaks.com

We got in total 1604 votes. Of these, 389 were collected through phone call to random samples from 16 districts from 8 divisions. The total samples represent all 64 districts of Bangladesh.

Generally, we are observing that all age groups want the government to stay for several years. 70% Gen Zs want the government to stay for more than 3 years while 68% millennial want the government to stay for more than 3 years. However, it goes down for the Gen X; 51% of the Gen X want the government to stay for more than 3 years.

The median for Gen Z and Millenial is 5 years while it is 3 years for Gen X. The mode is 6 years for Gen Z, 5 years for Millennial and 3 years for Gen X.

The results get further insightful if we look at the comparative analysis between phone call poll and online poll. Remember that the phone call poll is on low income population.

In the phone call poll, 45% of the Gen Zs, 38% of the Millennial and 35% of the Gen X want the interim government to stay for more than 3 years. Majority of the millennial voters (23%) and Gen X voters (23%) from low income voted for 1 year while majority of the Gen Z voters (29%) from low income voted for 2 years.

There is striking difference between male and female. At the aggregate level 69% of male voters want the interim government to stay for more than 3 years while 49% of the female voters want the same. On the other hand, in the low income segment, 65% of the male voters want the interim government to stay for more than 3 years while 45% of the female voters want the same.

At bangladeshspeaks.com we are building a system to analyze public pulse. We are fully aware of data quality assurance and all the data are available for expert analysis.

In a democracy, the government and the policy makers need to have unfiltered information to assess people’s pulse. In Bangladesh, we never really had a system to collect, analyse and share public opinions through opinion polls.

I am immensely proud of our team at Innovision who took just about five days to launch Bangladeshspeaks.com, a micro-polling website to collect and share public opinions by age, sex, occupation and location.

The first poll results will be out soon! In the meantime, have your say at https://lnkd.in/gPedDMxb
