Over the summer, I invested in Cove, one of those rare companies that can actually change the course of history. Cove's first product is the world’s first fully biodegradable water bottle. Completely plastic free, compostable, renewable and biodegradable.
Plastic pollution is a major environmental threat to our planet. Millions of tons of plastic waste enter our oceans every year, harming marine life and the ecosystems we depend on, while the microplastics & endocrine-disrupting chemicals released by plastic end up in our food chain and in our bodies. Recent studies now show that the vast majority of humans have microplastics in their blood and lungs.
After four years of research and development, under the relentless leadership of its founder Alex Totterman, Cove launched the world's first biodegradable water bottle made from a natural material called PHA. PHA has existed in nature for millions of years and offers all of the benefits of plastic with none of the downsides. Cove’s bottle is designed to be composted (Cove has partnered with a large organic recycling company for that) but in the worst case scenario, a littered Cove bottle would be consumed by microorganisms in nature within a few years.
Cove's water bottle launched in Erewhon on December 1st, and the reaction so far has been incredible. Cove’s launch has attracted significant attention from a variety of influential fans including Kim Kardashian.
This is only the beginning of what Cove has planned and I can’t wait to see what they do next. If you’re interested in trying the product yourself, you can find Cove at Erewhon stores across LA or purchase online at cove [dot] co.
