This week my daughter, Elise visited the Provenir offices for a couple of days work experience. Why? she is studying GCSE economics and we felt getting some real world experience or applied economics would be a fantastic way to get her head out the text book and see it differently. Oh, and also she has never understood what I do (aka... I have never explained it very well).

What was her feedback? (and yes, of course Dad made her summarise her 'take aways' 🙄 )

📈 She got a better understanding of revenue (and the different types), profit (and why, at different stages of business scale it might not be the priority) and why a company has all these financial KPI's. Thanks to Andres Elizondo for his expert tutoring and to Sophia Qureshi for providing the 30min explainer video which will "get her an A" 😣 Data entry is "a bit boring" but data profiling "is kinda fun" - she also knows how important it is to help execute sales and marketing effectively. Cathy Starr - she was much more willing and excited to do the work meeting with you. Kris Emerton-Jones - she has promised to finish that profiling for you during the rest of her summer holidays but has made a great start. 😎 Legal things don't happen like they do in Suits (slight bubble bursting moment ) - she loved hearing more about the work we do Coral Chen, thank you. 🙌 She now says she better understands what I do thanks only to the rest of the team who explained it much better than me and made it a lot more interesting. Jason Abbott, especially your 'teenage centric' explanation of fraud.

What a fantastic couple of days it was for her and i am truly grateful to the Provenir team for embracing the process and her. The 2 days culminated with a CV masterclass with the ever awesome Carla Crocoli so she can freshen things up before looking for part time jobs next year.

Oh, and yes Louis Garner, she got the full experience of a 5am alarm on the first day to catch the red eye train and a second early start to hit the gym before day 2 started. Couldn't make it seem too easy 😉

Im looking forward to see how she can apply some of these things and i genuinely hope she enjoyed the experience. She also helped us a ton.

p.s. i get that this kind of post should be accompanied by a classic photo outside the office but she wasn't so keen and that is fine by me.

It is now about 7 and a half years since we founded TruNarrative. I was incredibly lucky to be part of an amazing founding team of John Lord, Michael Harriss and Mark Courtney. I can't really remember through the haze but we might have even had some fun doing it? 😁

Within 5years, and with the support of an incredible team around us, the business was sold to Relx Plc (into the Lexis Nexis Risk solutions division). Since then I have been part of a leadership function, alongside original Co-Founder Mike, David Eastaugh, Adam Doyle, Edward Vaughan and Jonathan Kent doing our best to ensure the people have every opportunity to succeed, the core business model is understood and protected so it can grow and also shifting the go to market from a centralised team to a complex, but very large, matrixed business. There now exists a new function across Lexis called 'Platforms', it is scaling fast and the original TN team remain a strong unit. This is something we should be really proud of; everyone in the team has adapted and adopted to the 'new world' incredibly well.

The most asked question since joining Lexis has been "so how's it going then". This is normally accompanied with a tone suggesting everything should be a nightmare (small nimble hyper growth scale up acquired by FTSE 100 behemoth). LexisNexis Risk Solutions has been a fantastic home for the business and product. It was clear from the start that they acquired us for growth, for the talent and to capture a market they weren't yet in.. We have therefore found ourselves front and centre over the past couple of years and the Lexis and Relx exec function has been incredibly supportive. Of course, it has not been without its frustrations but they were perhaps inevitable and I hope we have had even a small positive influence on how they run their business. There are many people to recognise from the Lexis business but a call out must go to Grayson Clarke for all the support both personally and for the business over the last couple of years. Your desire to have the TN vision front and centre is very much appreciated. Also special appreciation for Chris F. - you 'got us' from the start and that's why i stole you to work for us 😉

Whats the point in this post then? Well from this strong foundation it is now time to move on and I left the business a few weeks ago having made the decision to move on at the end of 2023. I am having some time off before moving on with my next opportunity. I also wanted to recognise the team for what they have achieved and the way they have handled themselves over the past couple of years - the TN legacy lives on in you all. Looking forward to seeing some of you this week for a bit of celebration.

Finally, a thank you to the many partners and customers who all made this possible by supporting us in those early days. There is no way we could have done this without your faith in us.
