For my annual competitive activity this year, I recently did the Escape from Alcatraz triathlon. It's been a busy year, so I changed it up this year and did the relay with a college buddy and a cyclist we picked up.

I love the swim challenge as the race can be anywhere from 1-3 miles depending on the currents, and some years we've had 5' white caps crashing into you as you try to breathe and navigate the crowds. You can train all you want in a pool, but I love that you also need to be mentally ready to adapt once you hit the water. Our team adapted well, and we ended up winning our division and taking home the trophy!   These annual challenges motivate me to stay in shape all year, but more importantly, they give me a healthy outlet to satisfy my competitive itch so I don't let it out in areas of my life where it may not be as productive!     Starting to brainstorm next year's competitive activity and thinking about stepping it up a notch... Any ideas??

Bloomberg recently spotlighted the risky practices that some PE firms are engaging in, like over-lending and NAV financing, which can mask underlying financial instabilities.

You all know how I feel about this. At Tide Rock, we firmly believe that real value comes from operational excellence and sustainable growth, not financial engineering. Our strategy is rooted in investing to ensure that our portfolio companies achieve tangible results through disciplined and effective management.   It doesn’t make sense to me how many financial engineers and analysts PE firms hire who have never run a company. They spend their time on what they are comfortable with—financial manipulation—while we, as operators, dedicate our time to what we do best: growing businesses. This hands-on, operator-focused approach sets us apart and ensures that we deliver real, sustainable value to our investors. Our approach has consistently led to an average annual growth rate of 30+% across our portfolio companies.   If you're looking for a partner who prioritizes true operational excellence over financial gimmicks, reach out and find out more about how we work.
