Highlights
"Capitalism, Socialism and Zombies" by Sajid Khetani
There is a global backlash against large corporations and a renewed interest in socialism of one kind or another. These discussions have been and will continue to be included in global political discourse. So what does capitalism mean in today's time?
Keeping this as a backdrop, ace investor, fund manager, and author, Ruchir Sharma has published his new book titled, "What went wrong with Capitalism?" I have aggregated insights on a few key themes. Would love to know your thoughts as well.

The case of election result tickers and UK elections
This morning, while browsing through the UK election results, I was intrigued by how differently various websites across three countries displayed their election result tickers.
CNN and NDTV both featured real-time election result tickers prominently on their homepages. In contrast, neither BBC News nor Financial Times had a ticker on their homepage; users needed to click on an "Election Results" link to access the latest updates. (See screenshots from CNN (US), NDTV (India), BBC (UK), and FT (UK).)
Given that the elections were taking place in the UK, I had expected BBC and FT to follow the lead of other news websites in India and the US, where election results are typically showcased prominently on the homepage during election season.
Interestingly, when I explored other UK-based news portals such as Sky News and The Guardian, I found that they too were displaying the election result ticker on their homepages. This observation suggests that the absence of a ticker on BBC and FT might not be an anomaly but rather a deliberate editorial choice.
The primary function of an election result ticker is to attract immediate attention due to its relevance and timeliness, fostering user engagement as readers seek the latest information and analysis. The question arises: Why would BBC and FT deviate from this practice?
It's plausible that for BBC and FT, this approach aligns with their editorial strategy. Perhaps they prioritise providing a balanced and less sensationalised view of ongoing events, catering to their audience's expectations for a more measured and nuanced presentation of election results. Ultimately, it reflects their focus on user experience and editorial positioning.
Would love to hear your thoughts.
