Highlights
One of my proudest achievements this year involves collaborating closely with Jonathan Weidenhamer to craft both the content and quantitative analysis for Downtown South Salt Lake’s HTRZ application. Our endeavor included seeking and implementing guidance from our community leaders such as Senator Harper, Speaker Schultz, Jim Grover, Beth Holbrook, Dina Blaes, Kersten Swinyard, Jason Gardner and others. Our combined efforts resulted in an application that exemplifies key HTRZ objectives, including the creation of affordable housing, access to public transit, pedestrian connectivity, and public amenities.
The culmination of feedback from these individuals coupled with the dedicated efforts of Mayor Wood, Lindsey Ferrari, Zion’s, Urban & Main Consulting, and city staff led to the unanimous approval of HRTZ tax-increment financing just yesterday.
This financing is critical for the realization of a transformative, one-of-a-kind community in Downtown South Salt Lake — where residents will be able to live, work, play and move seamlessly. The community vision calls for more than 5,000 new housing units and public enhancements, transforming an outdated light-industrial zone into a vibrant mixed-use city center positioned at the very epicenter of the Salt Lake Valley.
Thank you to all who are deeply committed to addressing our housing crisis, embracing innovative solutions and driving meaningful change. While we have achieved much, there is still work to be done.
If your city’s transit stops or your transit-oriented development would benefit from an HTRZ, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to discussing the possibilities with you!
