Samar Singla is a highly accomplished individual with a varied academic background and extensive experience in the technology and research sectors. With a BTech in Physics from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and a Masters in Chemistry from the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, Samar has a solid foundation in the sciences. His high school education was completed at General Gurnam Singh Public School. Samar has held key leadership positions in various organizations, including being the CEO/Founder of JungleWorks, Founder/CEO of Jugnoo, and Founder of Click Labs. Prior to his entrepreneurial ventures, he has also been involved in groundbreaking research, having worked as a Researcher at the University of Maryland, a Scientist at CERN, and a Researcher at IBM. In a few recent interviews I realised that people are surprised that we are profitable and plan to stay profitable while growing. There is this sense that growth means burn even in b2b SaaS businesses. I have subconsciously started to steer clear of folks who have worked and super glorious burn machines- even the successful ones. Their formula doesn’t work for most companies. It’s tough to argue against raising a ton of money- who would not want it? But ask yourself this- would you rather build a billion dollar company and keep 5% of it or build a 100 million dollar company and keep a 100% of it. And then there is the stupidest selfserving myth that VCs propagate- focus on a small problem. All the mega companies were built by constant experimentation and going out of their comfort zone. If Google focused on search alone or if Amazon focused on ecommerce alone, I feel they would be irrelevant today. Nokia and blackberry were super focused companies that wouldn’t experiment and that they got what they deserved. I follow these 4 guiding principles to guide me in our journey of building the on demand everything company.
