Highlights
The call for national unity didn’t seem to last long as evidenced by day 1 of the Republican National Convention.
First they stood up 2 of the most divisive candidates in the country as main speakers.
Then many of the speeches contained overt anti LGBTQ (especially anti Trans) messaging.
What I’d love to ask and get an answer to is how will marginalizing or eliminating LGBTQ Americans, which is already marginalized and threatened, going to make your life better or make the country better?
LGBTQ individuals as a whole is less than 10% of the country. The Transgender community is less than 1% of the US population.
Yet these small numbers apparently are so powerful to have adversely impacted a country of nearly 400,000,000?
That’s pretty amazing power, especially for a group that’s not too high in household income, or famous people.
Without an internet search, how many famous LGBTQ individuals can you name?
I only came up with:
Kristen Beck (retired Navy SEAL) Pete Butegieg (former mayor of South Bend Indiana and now Secretary of Transportation) Tim Cook (CEO of Apple) Laverne Cox (Actress) Ellen deGeneres (talk show host) Caitlyn Jenner (former Olympic dechathelte) Rachel Levine (Assistant Secretary of HHS) Ru Paul (entertainer and social entrepreneur) Peter Thiel (co-founder of PayPal) Leo Varadkar (former Prime Minister of France)
These all seem like well-accomplished and amazing human beings.
History, very recently has shown that it is easy for demagogues and bullies to pick on the seemingly powerless - Hitler blamed Jews, Idi Amin blamed Indians in Uganda, Indonesia’s dictator blamed the ethnic Chinese, Myanmar military junta blame the Rohingya now.
What the right-wing of the Republican Party is doing here is just another example of all these bullies and dictators.
If you support this agenda, help me understand how this 1% of America or 10% if you take the larger LGBTQ common, whose rights and existing is already being challenged, pose such an existential threat to the United States?
Maybe it’s some of another 1% who are manipulating the country for their personal gain, to stay on top of the Pyramid of wealth and power.
If there is an logical/rational explanation, please share and if not please ask yourself, why you support this agenda, when history has shown what happens when bullies and demagogues try to lead, and the uninformed follow.
