Samuel McIlhagga is a dedicated professional with a strong passion for music education, especially in the realm of wind band and wind band conducting.

With a diverse educational background, including a PhD in Music from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, an MM in Wind Band Conducting from Northwestern University, and a BME in Music Education and Trumpet Performance from Grand Valley State University, Samuel brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his teaching and conducting roles.

Having held positions such as Professor Emeritus at Albion College, Music Director & Principal Conductor at Lansing Concert Band, and Band Director at various institutions including Cereal City Concert Band and Sparta High School, Samuel has a rich history of leadership and mentorship in the field of music.

Samuel excels in making interdisciplinary connections, as evidenced by his classes like Rock and Roll in Society and the Jazz 'Collective,' where he explores the intersection of music with culture, economics, gender, race, and government.

His dedication to providing students with opportunities to succeed through directing bands, coaching, clinicing, adjudicating, and teaching courses in music and music education showcases his commitment to nurturing the next generation of music educators.

In addition to his formal roles, Samuel McIlhagga has also engaged in informal interactions with students, creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all those interested in music.
